Green River Museum kicks off its summer season

The Green River Museum officially began its 2023 summer season on Saturday, June 3.  It  is now open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Richard Butler Sons of the American Revolution presented the colors at Saturday's opening.

"The 1913 Superintendent's House was always known for its hospitality. From its first inhabitants, the W. S. Overstreets, to the James Burch family and the Ernest Rays, there are many oral history accounts of the house being a welcoming place for local residents," said Tommy Hines, curator of the museum.  "Today, as part of the Green River Museum, it continues to be a place of hospitality, and will be open to the public on Saturdays beginning the first weekend in June. There will be new exhibits in the museum building and new restoration to see in the house as well."

Local authors and artists were also on site.  They included Roger Givens (signing new book on Woodbury history); Don Elmore and Frank Hobbs (musical performance); Hideaway Craftsman Joseph Phillips (handmade brooms and wood crafts); Lynsie Jones (soaps and candles); Marc Hirsch (signing books); Richard Hines (signing books); Lynzie Embry Soaps and Candles; and Debbie Fulkerson (Hangin' Round Door Hanger) Kathy Lawrence had a table also for CETUSA for information about the exchange students.

The Green River Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Butler County, Kentucky's history.
