Green River Chapter NSDAR set for a busy November

The Green River Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution asks, “do you have a patriotic family tree?”  On November 4, from 12pm-3pm, at the Butler County Public Library, NSDAR members will host a Genealogy Research and Application Workshop. Attendees can bring the information they have available and receive assistance in research for a DAR, SAR or C.A.R. application. These acronyms stand for Daughters of the American Revolution, Sons of the American Revolution, and Children of the American Revolution. In order to be a part of these organizations, a person must be able to trace their lineage back to someone who served in the American Revolutionary War. These groups engage in community service, historic preservation, education and supporting our military. ½ hour sessions will be available. Space is limited so those interested should register early by emailing Melanie Hunt, Regent, Green River Chapter NSDAR, at [email protected].

At this event the chapter will also be presenting Christine Coleman with an Excellence in Historic Preservation award. According to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, “the NSDAR has an award available to present by Chapters. The Excellence in Historic Preservation award, certificate, and medal recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations that promote historic preservation in myriad ways. The recognition honors individuals and groups that have saved and preserved their local history, monuments, cemeteries, and other important artifacts. It is presented to a group or business that rescues a historic structure to establish it as its headquarters.” Tommy Hines and the Green River Museum Board were the first to receive this award back in August.

The Green River Chapter also encourages folks to attend the annual Community Veterans Day Program at BCHS on Friday, November 10 at 9:00am. The keynote speaker will be Master Chief Bill Vermillion. All veterans, their families and community members are encouraged to attend.

On the following day, November 11, the Green River Chapter will host the annual Veterans Day Parade. Those interested in participating can preregister by emailing Melanie Hunt at the above email address, although preregistration is not required to participate. Lineup will take place a 1pm at Morgantown Elementary and will follow the Christmas Parade route. The parade itself will begin at 2pm.
