GRCF comes to a close; no tagged fish caught

Travis Allen caught the biggest fish overall during the three-day tournament

The 33rd annual Green River Catfish Festival came to a close Saturday, July 6 at the Charles Black City Park. The brief closing ceremony was held just after 7 pm. During the ceremony, several prizes were awarded as a result of the annual GRCF $10,000 fishing tournament. No tagged fish were caught this year.

Morgantown Mayor Linda Keown and Butler County Judge-Executive David Fields addressed the crowd during the ceremony. Both thanked everyone for coming out to the festival despite the weather.

The winners of the annual Fishin' for the Little Ones contest were honored. Briar Flener (left), Solomon Flener (center), and Hallow O'Connell (right) each walked away with cash prizes for their efforts.

Three fisherman were each awarded $100 each for having the biggest catch of the day during the fishing tournament. Jeff Raymer (left) reeled in the biggest catch on Thursday and received $100 from Embry and Watts, CPAs. Travis Allen (center) had the biggest catch on Friday and received $100 from Kentucky Farm Bureau. Landon Cardwell (right) landed the biggest fish of the day on Saturday and received $100 from Morgantown Utilities.

Travis Allen was also recognized for catching the biggest fish overall and received $250 from Hocker Family Insurance and Progressive.

Beech Tree News/WLBQ 1570 AM awarded Billy Vincent with a $100 check after his name was drawn from the names of those who had purchased a tournament ticket.

Since there were no tagged fish caught this year, Tracy Hack of Star-Tek Recycling opted to give out the cash prizes from the tagged fish his company sponsored to two fisherman that purchased tickets. Brandon Jones (pictured above) and Paul Ralph each received $250 as a result of the draw.
