GRCF $10,000 Fishing Tournament to kick-off July 4

A scene from this year's tagging and release of prize catfish.

The premiere event upon which the entire Green River Catfish Festival is built - the fishing tournament - is set to begin on Thursday, July 4 and will run through Saturday, July 6.  The tournament, which is from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, will feature the "big one," a prize catfish that could be worth $10,000 for one lucky and skilled angler.  There are 43 tagged fish in the water, including other "special" fish that provide anglers with opportunities to win prize money.  Also, Beech Tree News/WLBQ 1570 will be giving away a guaranteed $100 through a blind draw of all fishing tickets.

Fishing tickets are $10 each and must be purchased prior to the start of the fishing tournament on Thursday, July 4.  They are available at Aberdeen Grocery, the Chamber Trailer at the city park, and the BtN/WLBQ booth at the park. Tagged fish must be turned in at the boat ramp on the Morgantown side of the river across from Aberdeen.
