Graduation 2015

The gymnasium of Butler County High School was at capacity on the evening of Friday, May 29 for the commencement of the 2015 graduation ceremony. The graduates were scattered about the premises for fellowship and photographs until roughly 7:15pm, at which point they formed a line between the hallway. They then entered the gymnasium to greet the spectators and find their seats under the tune of "Pomp and Circumstance".

 


Principal Patrick O'Driscoll welcomed the guests to the ceremony. It was requested that the guests placed their phones on silent out of respect for the graduates. NJROTC then presented the colors for the National Anthem, performed by the BCHS choir.

 

Major Robert Redmond stepped forward to recognize the seniors who are enlisted in the U.S. military. Among the seniors enlisted were: Jacob Clark- Army National Guard, Andrew Givens- Army National Guard, Katie Holland- U.S. Navy, Quenton Jett- U.S. Marines, Johnathon Oliver- Army National Guard, and Destiny Phelps- U.S. Navy. Following the was a performance of "Alma Mater" arranged by Darryl Dockery and performed by the BCHS Choir. The invocation was given by Matthew Embry, member of the senior class. In light of the invocation, the choir performed "Somewhere over the Rainbow".

 


Next on the agenda was the presentation of special awards and recognition for outstanding academic achievement and attendance. Before this, the administrators, council, and board members on the stage were introduced. Special awards were as follows: Perfect Attendance 8-12- Emily Rich, Perfect Attendance 4-12- Kortney Barbier. Valedictorian (GPA of 4.0) Haley Adkins, Matthew Embry, Brittney Gruber, Lennon Johnson, Allison Kurfiss, Abbigail Mencl, Emily Rich, and Shawna West. Salutatorians (GPA 3.96) Kortney Barbier and Courtney Embry.

 

Emily Rich was the valedictorian speaker for the 2015 graduating class. Her address spoke of the correlation that can be made between listening and success in endeavors. She stressed the importance of finding a passion in life, regardless of your current place. That it is paramount in life to allow yourself to be passionate. She underlined what it means to remain content, humble, and confident while striving to better yourself and learn. She spoke on the importance of appreciating the things you have and spending time with loved ones and being happy in general. She reminded the audience to have fun in life. She thanked her family, friends and teachers for guiding and supporting her along the way.

 

Duane Curry took the stand to reveal that this graduating class has been awarded $1,380,000 in scholarships. Curry then called the junior assistants to their position. The rows were asked to stand one at a time as their names were called. At this time, the graduates received their diplomas.

 




Patrick O'Driscoll then affirmed to the board and administration that each graduate has met the required curriculum to be a graduate in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. The seniors were dismissed and given time for fellowship and photos to the tune of "See You Again" by Wiz Khalifa. Best in all endeavors to the class of 2015.

 Class sponsors were: Robert Ayer, Jennifer Davis, Brandon Embry, Katie Flener, and Scott Flener. Class officers were: Allison Kurfiss- President, Brittney Gruber- Vice President, and Ciara Bolden- Treasurer. The class colors were: Royal blue, black, white, and golden yellow. The class flower was the Yellow calla lily, class motto: "Nothing will work unless you do" -Maya Angelou.

 The top 14 Juniors were: Isaiah Arnold, Naomi Cade, Sabrina Camus, Annabelle Cooper, Jarred Corona, Emily Coy, Ian Embry, Kimberlea Ferrell, Emily Wallace, Nolan Johnson, Taylor King, Emma Robbins, Madison Wells, and Kelsie Wilson.
