Going, Going, Gone

Going

Part of Butler County history, the former Gulf Station on Main Street in Morgantown was destroyed today to make room for the new Morgantown Mission Building. According to Garry McKinney, Mission
Director, the Morgantown Mission is not government funded or affiliated, but are based and funded by our community.

A lot of history on this corner! The home of Judge B.L.D. Guffy and family was located here, and Guffy's small frame office was on the corner. When the Morgantown School burned back in the 1910s, the office was used for one of the classes to meet. The Guffy house was supposedly one of the finest and largest in Morgantown. It was torn down when the Gulf Station was built . . . an enterprise that became a hub of business and good service for many years. Change is good, but make sure we remember what came before it. Butler County is proud of the ministry and success of the Morgantown Mission.
Tommy, who ran/managed the Gulf station? My only memory is Hike Vance. Reading your post is like a visit home---which means so much. I appreciate your willingness to share your vast knowledge of Morgantown and Butler County history. You are truly our historical scholar in residence. Your cousin, Michael
Where did the glass go that was painted on the office part? I really liked that glass and wanted it.
