GIRLS' HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL: Lady Bears pull away to defeat Warren Central

BOWLING GREEN - Butler County returned to the win column on the road on Tuesday night, defeating host Warren Central 60-47 in an early-season girls' high school basketball game.

The Lady Bears, under the direction of head coach Lexie Belcher, gradually pulled away for the win over Warren Central, an opponent from the neighboring 4th Region.

With the win, Butler County improved to 2-3.

Remaining winless, Warren Central slipped to 0-8 with the loss.

"I am very proud of the Lady Bears," Belcher said, following her team's win. "We continue to play hard despite being on the road for three games straight. This win was huge as we are going into our district game Friday against Edmonson County."

The victory allowed Butler County to halt a three-game losing skid. Prior to Tuesday night, Butler County had dropped three consecutive games to Russellville, Muhlenberg County and Whitesville Trinity. The Lady Bears defeated Hancock County in a season opener on November 26.

Senior guard Maddie Cardwell led a balanced Butler County offensive effort in the triumph over Warren Central, scoring 12 points for the Lady Bears. Accompanying Cardwell in double figures, junior guard Jacie Ward added 11 points and freshman center Taylin Clark contributed 10 points.

Narrowly missing double figures, Jaelyn Taylor netted nine points for the Lady Bears.

Rounding out the Butler County individual scoring, Gracie Cardwell posted eight points while Kasidy Graham provided six points.

The Lady Bears are slated to host longtime rival Edmonson County (3-3 overall, 0-1 12th District)) in a 12th District girls' basketball game at 6 p.m. on Friday evening. The Lady Bears and Lady Cats will meet as part of a 12th District boys/girls basketball doubleheader.
