Gary gets seat on Morgantown City Council; will replace Dustin Embry

Morgantown City Council held a called meeting on Monday. March 10 at city hall.  All members - Sharon Johnson, Dionne Meritt, Russell Givens, Telia  Keown, and Amy Deweese - were present.

With only two ideas on the agenda, it was a short meeting.

The second item on the agenda, arguably the most significant, was selecting a new council member to replace Dustin Embry. Current council members submitted the names of three individuals to be considered: Pam Staples, Chris Sanders, and Michael Gary.

Sharon Johnson moved to put the names in a hat or sack and draw one out. The motion passed on a 4-1 vote, with Russell Givens voting against that motion.

Council member Russel Givens was then tasked with selecting the name from the sack.  Subsequently, Michael Gary was picked and will finish Dustin Embry's term on the council.

Gary will be sworn in at the next council meeting.

In other business, the council tabled Ordinance 2025-01: Amending Ordinance 2021-04 Section 22: Regulatory License Fee – Subsection A – Second Reading at the Mayor's request.
