Garden and Food Preservation Workshop April 11

Greg Drake II, County Extension Agent for Agriculture and Natural Resources

People interested in gardening and basic food preservation should make plans to attend the 2012 Garden and Food Preservation program on Wednesday, April 11th at the Butler County Extension Service from 8:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.

Topics covered will include the basics of growing vegetables in a home garden and how to preserve what you grow this summer.  Food preservation has been gaining in popularity during the past few years.  People are interested in producing their own food for economic reasons and so they can know about the quality of the food they feed their family.  Greg Drake will present information on basic vegetable production and Tracy Thornton will present the food preservation portion of the program.

There is no fee to attend the program.  Please RSVP by calling the Extension Office at 526-3767, so that materials can be prepared.

Melissa Embry is an avid gardener and has volunteered to help get people in Morgantown a spot worked up for their garden in 2012.

Also, if someone in Morgantown is interested in growing a garden but cannot get their garden spot tilled for planting Melissa Embry has volunteered to bring her tractor and tiller into town and till garden spots for free.  If you would like to talk to Melissa about getting your garden spot prepared call the Extension Office at 526-3767 and we will get you on the list.

For more information, contact the Butler County Extension Office at 112 E GL Smith Street, Morgantown, or call 270-526-3767.

Educational programs of the Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex, religion, disability, or national origin.
