Future Health Professionals Going Above and Beyond
Saturday, October 26th was an exciting, fun filled day for Health Occupation Students of America (HOSA) students at the Butler Co ATC. HOSA students participated in Harvest on the Square providing free blood pressure screenings, hypertension education and the promotion of their evening Cystic Fibrosis Event.
HOSA hosted their first 5K Walk/Run for Cystic Fibrosis, following Harvest on the Square. Chris Flewallen joined the Future Health Professional students to help raise money for the CF research foundation. Mr. Flewallen is a CF patient who knows firsthand the daily struggles that comes with this deadly genetic disease. He was a huge asset to the HOSA event.
Despite the cold weather, the club was very pleased with the turnout and success of the event. Not only was this event beneficial for Cystic Fibrosis foundation it was also a beneficial for the health occupation students. Each student learned the importance of teamwork and leadership while recognizing a self-appreciation for being healthy and helping others in need.
Ms. Jenny Joiner, RN/HOSA Advisor is extremely proud of each student for the hard work, dedication and effort put into this event. She strives to instill optimistic attitudes and self-confidence in her students. Ms. Joiner said quote, “I could not ask for a better group of students. The health care industry will be blessed to receive such outstanding, caring individuals.”
HOSA would like to thank the following sponsors for making their event successful: Corvac, Firehouse Pizza, Houchens Industries, Chris Flewallen, Geno’s Italian Deli, Parkway Cars & Tires, C&L Collision, Kuntry Kitchen, Farmboy and Russell and Wendy Givens.
