Fun Day @ The Park
The Boys & Girls Club of Butler County hosted a Fun Day on Tuesday at the Eva J. Hawes Building at the City Park. According to Bruce White, director of the Club, the day was organized for all children in Butler County.
The South Central Kentucky Kids on the Block kicked off the activities with the Get Fit Program which focuses on setting goals to eat healthy foods and to exercise. The child-size puppets stress that it doesn’t matter how big or small a person is, what matters is that we can all become healthier by setting goals for health and fitness.
Hot Yoga of Bowling Green also presented a yoga program for the children that wanted to participate.
Butler County author, Linda Hawkins, of Heart to Heart Publishing, was also on hand. Mrs. Hawkins presented the children with two books each. She signed each book and spoke with the children. Hawkins authored the award winning book, Alexander and the Great Berry Patch, Alexander and The Great Food Fight, and Alexander and The Great Vegetable Feud.
The Butler County Summer Feeding Program provided lunch for the children.
In the afternoon the Pillowcase Project was presented by the American Red Cross Bowling Green Chapter. The project is designed to be an age appropriate and engaging way to educate children about the importance of disaster preparedness in a fun and constructive way. Following presentations each student received a pillowcase, mini first aid kit, glow stick, activity book and crayons to start their own personalized disaster kit and preparedness plan.
Parents were also given the opportunity to attend a Smart Parents Class.
