Fugate Retires, Tyree Appointed

In a called meeting of the Butler County Fiscal Court on Thursday night, Butler County Jailer Terry Fugate retired after 27 years of service to the county.  Fugate served as deputy sheriff prior to being elected jailer.   The elected officials in attendance presented Fugate with a certificate of appreciation.

Circuit Judge Ron Dortch adminstered the oath of office to Rocky Tyree.
Butler County Judge-Executive David Fields by executive order appointed Chief Deputy Jailer Rocky Tyree to finish the remaining two years of Fugate's term. Circuit Judge Ron Dortch administered the oath of office to Tyree.
Butler County Clerk Sherry Johnson asked the court to approve an amendment to her 2016 budget, reflecting an increase of revenue of between $200,000 to $300,000.  First District Magistrate Stevie Givens made the motion to approve the amendment and Third District Magistrate Chad Tyree seconded the motion, which was approved by a 5-0 vote.
Fourth District Magistrate David Whittinghill made a motion to issue two checks to the Kentucky State Treasurer for following surplus property:

  • $12,000 for a 2001 International tandem truck (96,600 miles)
  • $2,000 for four snow plows ( 10 & 12 feet)

Mr. Givens seconded the motion that passed 5-0.
According to Judge Fields, keeping ferry operators has been a major problem.
"We have had several individuals with excellent work records applied but failed to meet other requirements such as having a high school diploma or GED and a valid Kentucky driving license," said Fields.
A driver's license is not required to operate a ferry in Kentucky.
Mr. Whittinghill made a motion to eliminate the high school diploma/GED and valid driver's license requirement, Fifth District Magistrate Bobby Moore provided the second.  The motion passed 4-1 with Tyree casting the nay vote.
Mr. Givens made a motion to take Hidden Valley Drive into the County Road System; the motion failed due to the lack of a second.
The court approved the following by a 5-0 vote:

  • Transfer of $25,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund
  • Computer maintenance contact with Bob Womack for $1,500 annual for the Judge, Treasurer, Occupational Tax, Road Department, Animal Shelter, Recycling Center, and Emergency Management offices.
  • Bills and transfers
