Former Madisonville Mayor Will Cox Files for State Senate Seat

Will Cox Files for State Senate Seat

Hopkins County native and former Madisonville Mayor Wiliam “Will” Cox, Jr.(D) filed his candidacy papers today at the State Capitol in Frankfort for the sixth-district of the Kentucky State Senate. The 6th District is comprised of Butler, Hopkins, Muhlenberg and Ohio counties and is currently represented by Senator Jerry Rhoads, who recently announced his retirement at the end of the current term. The election will take place on November 4th, 2014.
“I want to bring the same energy, enthusiasm, and tenacity that served me well as Mayor of Madisonville to the entire sixth senatorial district,” Cox said of his candidacy.
“I will fight for every citizen in each of the four counties of the 6th District in Frankfort," Cox continued. "I will support ideas and policies that will keep jobs here at home and bring more good-paying jobs to the district; I will fight to improve educational resources and opportunities
for all; I will work with law enforcement and citizen groups to keep us safe in our homes and workplaces; I will ensure that state government spends our tax dollars in the most efficient and cost-effective manner possible; and I will support our coal miners and their families by being a staunch advocate for the coal industry. These are my priorities."
“I want the citizens of the sixth district to know that they will be represented by someone who will listen when to their ideas and work tirelessly to help them accomplish their goals, whatever they may be," said Cox.
Prior to founding his own law firm in 2012, Cox served in government relations and external affairs for a leading national cable television operator. His public service record includes two two-year terms on the Madisonville City Council and a term as Mayor of Madisonville.
Will practiced law across Western Kentucky with the firm of Whitfield & Cox, PSC (formerly Whitfield & Calvert, PSC). He received his JD from the Louis D. Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville and his BS from the University of Kentucky. His volunteer and leadership
work includes Leadership Kentucky, the Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence Board of Directors, Friends of Kentucky Educational Television Board of Directors and past President, and Madisonville Noon Kiwanis Club Board of Directors.
Will lives in Madisonville with his wife, Marci.
