Flener defeats White for judge-executive; Givens, Phelps, Givens, Whittinghill and Bryant win races for Fiscal Court

After a hard-fought primary election, Tim Flener garnered nearly 1,000 votes in a five-way race to secure the Republican nomination for Butler County Judge-Executive.  He will face Mark Mudd, who was unopposed in the Democratic primary, in the November General Election. 

Flener received 999 votes (32.51%) to Bruce White's 829 votes (26.98%).  Jeff Jennings was a distant third with 532 votes (17.31%), Chad Tyree notched 426 votes (13.86%), and Richie Bratcher finished with 287 votes (9.34%).

All five seats on Butler County Fiscal Court were contested and one race was decided by a mere 12 votes.

In the First District, incumbent Stevie Givens defeated challengers Kyle Moore and Anita Minton.  Givens received 211 votes, Moore had 102 and Minton received 99. 

Kevin Phelps was victorious in the Second District - an open seat with incumbent Johnny Tuck not seeking reelection. Phelps received 352 votes. His nearest competition was Jason Elms with 174 votes. Cody Donaldson finished third with 144 votes.  Jacob Hampton received 38 votes and Andrew Forbes tallied 18 votes.

Phelps will face Democrat Josh Hampton in the General Election.  Hampton was unopposed in the primary. 

The Third District was another open seat with incumbent Chad Tyree seeking the office of judge-executive.  Former magistrate Timmy Givens defeated Patrick O'Driscoll 376 to 274.  Givens will face Democrat Daryl Dockery in the General Election.

The race for Fourth District magistrate was the closest of the evening.  Incumbent David Whittinghill narrowly edged out challenger Osei Thomas by a dozen votes.  Whittinghill received 220 votes to 208 votes for Thomas.  Carl Binion got 119 votes. 

In the Fifth District, challenger Dillon Bryant ousted incumbent Bobby Moore and received over 52% of the vote in a three-way race.  Bryant tallied 368 votes; Moore had 216; Pat Henderson received 123 votes.

For Butler County Sheriff, incumbent Scottie Ward easily won reelection.  Ward received 2,236 votes - over 74 percent.  Bobbie Hooten had 463 votes and William G. Mason finished with 300 votes. 

Bowling Green pharmacist Steve Sheldon won the overall GOP primary for a State Representative in the 17th District, which includes all of Butler County and a portion of Warren County.  Locally, Sheldon received 1,167 votes to 1,026 for Joey Franzell.  Mike Wilson had 433 votes and David Graham finished with 324 votes.  Incumbent Jim DeCesare (R-Bowling Green) did not seek reelection. 

Winning in races for constable across the county were Jeff Parker-1st District; Dale Willis-2nd District; Tony Givens-3rd District; and Jody Henderson-5th District.  Jeff Raymer was unopposed in the 4th District. 

There was one Democratic primary race - a contest for U.S. Representative in the 2nd Congressional District.  In Butler County, Brian Pedigo received the most votes with 102.  Overall, Hank Linderman edged out Pedigo by a margin of 14,516 to 13,866.
