FISCAL COURT: Three "Covid" days approved for county employees

Animal Shelter and Woodbury Lock property also discussed

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, October 12, at the courthouse. All magistrates were present: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant - along with Judge-Executive Tim Flener.

Earlier in the year, the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers asked the county to take possession of the Woodbury Lock property. The court voted not to take the property due to possible liability issues.

In their last meeting, magistrates discussed ways to compensate employees for working during the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. They approved giving all full-time employees who worked during the pandemic (March 1-September 30) three days of paid vacation. The days are November 25, December 23, and January 4.

The Court had asked for bids for the operation of the Butler County Animal Shelter. They received one proposal from Friends of Butler County Animals (FOBCA). There was some discussion concerning the upkeep of the building. FOBCA is requesting $7,000 per month from the Court to run the shelter. Currently, the county is spending approximately $6,400 per month. However, the $6,400 does not include benefits for employees. The Court took no action and decided to have further conservations with FOBCA to work out some of the agreement's specifics.

Magistrate Kevin Phelps asked for a three-way stop to be considered at the intersection of W. S. Romans and Cane Ridge Road due to safety concerns. Judge-Executive Tim Flener asked concerned citizens to call him at 270 526-1258, 270 526-3433, or Magistrate Phelps at 270-999-5744.
