FISCAL COURT: Part-time dispatcher hired, full-time postion to be advertised; magistrates mull sheriff's budget

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, November 9, at the courthouse. Judge-Executive Tim Flener and magistrates Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, and David Whittinghill were in attendance. Magistrate Dillon Bryant participated by phone due to sickness in his family.

After calling the meeting to order and approving the minutes from October 26, 2020, magistrates went into closed session to discuss personnel matters.

The court came back into open session and hired Haley Wright as a 911 dispatcher, part-time (less than 100 hours per month) at $12 per hour. They also approved to advertise for a full-time dispatcher.

Next, Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward asked to purchase a new vehicle from his 2020 budget. According to Ward, he has two cruisers that are both ten-years old and all vehicles are paid in full.

"One we are using for parts, and the other is not much better," explained Ward.

The court approved the purchase a Dodge truck for $30,807 and an amendment to his 2020 budget.

Sheriff Ward presented his 2021 budget and noted that his office is down about $34K due to Covid-19-related issues. They have not been transporting as many prisoners to court or serving papers.

Ward asked the court to look over his budget and come to him if they had any questions. The court took no action on the 2021 budget.
