FISCAL COURT: New truck for sheriff's department, AEDs, litter abatement among items discussed

Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, October 23. All magistrates attended - Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill and Dillon Bryant.

With no old business on the agenda, the court went straight into new business.

New Business

Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward addressed the court concerning purchasing a new vehicle for his department. According to Ward, it is nearly impossible to find a Tahoe, and Chevys are starting at $52,000, so the department will be looking at Dodge trucks, which start at $37,000. The court approved his request.

Fifth District Volunteer Fire Department Chief Rich Henderson asked the court to allow the VFD to purchase AEDs for the department at a reduced cost. The fire department will reimburse the court for the cost through an AVG Homeland Security Grant.

Magistrates also approved payment to election officers and commissioners.

The court approved litter abatement payments to the following: Fifth District VFD, Shrine Club, BCMS BETA, Boys and Girls Basketball, Gilstrap Community Center, Breeze Softball, and the Reedyville Lodge.

The court approved the submission of eight illegal dumps to the state for approval: (one each on) County Road, Lee Property, Voting House Road, Oak Ridge, Region-Reedyville, Waverly School, Hwy 70 E, and Chad Johnson Farm /1083. The county plans to clean up five and bid three of the dumps.

The court approved a bid from Parkway Tires for 50X85 tires at $1,978.90.

The court approved up to $5,000 for bidding on a pothole patcher from the state auction.

The court approved the Fourth District VFD financial statement for the third quarter 2023.

The Court approved the following routine items:

--Bills and transfers

--Transfer of $10,000 from the General Fund to E-911

--Transfer of $35,000 from the General Fund to the Jail Fund

--Quarterly Financial Statement

--Spay/Neuter Grant

--Change in Life Insurance provider from Anthem Life to One America

--Settled 2022 Illegal Dump Grant

--Advertise for bids for Butler County Repeater Project
