Fiscal Court Hires Ferry Operator, Promotes Raymer, and Buys Equipment

Butler County Fiscal Court held a called meeting on Tuesday, August 16, 2016.  All members were present.  There were four items on the agenda, all being passed unanimously in the brief meeting that lasted less than thirty minutes.
The first item of business was the approval to hire a full-time ferry operator at the Reed’s Ferry.  The annual salary for this position was set at $24,000.00 with benefits.  After several interviews, the person hired to fill the position was Darrell G. Elder.   Third District Magistrate Chad Tyree made the motion to accept Mr. Elder, and it was seconded by First District Magistrate Stevie Givens.  The motion carried with no discussion.

The next item of business was to approve Corey Raymer for the supervisor position at the Butler County Recycling Center.  It was noted during the meeting that the only intention was to vote on officially giving Mr. Raymer the supervisory title and that his salary and benefits would remain the same.  A motion was made by Magistrate Givens and seconded by Second District Magistrate Johnny Tuck.  The motion carried with no discussion.
Continuing in reference to the county’s recycling center, the third item of business were uniforms for those employed at the facility.  The attire worn by those working must be able to protect them from hazardous debris they may encounter throughout their work day.  Fourth District Magistrate David Whittinghill made the motion to purchase uniforms and Magistrate Givens seconded.  There was a brief discussion on the type of protective clothing needed, how many outfits, and options as to where the uniforms would be purchased before the item passed unanimously.
The last item to be passed on the court’s agenda was the motion to purchase a Caterpillar 259 D Skidsteer from Whayne Supply Company. The court also approved payments of $47,200.86 from the KY Pride Recycling Grant along with $8,656.97 from the machinery and equipment line item from the road department for a total of $55,857.83.  Magistrate Whittinghill moved to make a motion to accept and it was approved by Magistrate Tuck.  There was a brief discussion to reiterate that the majority of the payment for the Caterpillar ($47,200.86) came from grant money alone before the motion was passed by all present.
