Fiscal Court hears report on upcoming Census; rejects motion to buy skid for 4th VFD citing equity concerns

Butler County Fiscal Court met on Monday, February 11, 2019, at the Butler County Courthouse at 5:00 P.M. with all magistrates in attendance:  First District Stevie Givens, Second District Kevin Phelps, Third District Timmy Givens, Fourth District David Whittinghill, and Fifth District Dillon Bryant.

Sharon Tabor reported on the 2020 census and how it impacts Butler County. According to Tabor, each person counted in the census is worth $972 in possible federal grants.  They will be hiring 111 people, at $15 per hour, in Butler County to work the 2020 Census.  You can apply online at 2020census.gov/jobs.

Treasurers Statement: Beginning Balance $3,428,974.43; Receipts $459,782.62; Disbursements $366,572.38; Ending Balance $3,522,184.67

Third District Magistrate Timmy Givens donated a leaf blower to the Butler County Animal Shelter.

Fourth District Magistrate David Whittinghill asked the court to buy a skid, at the cost of $10,800, for the Fourth District Volunteer Fire Department.  Second District Magistrate Kevin Phelps seconded the motion.  The motion failed by a 2-3 vote with Bryant, Givens, and Givens voting nay.  They expressed concern about buying one department equipment and not buying for all the fire departments.

The Court approved the following by a 5-0 vote:

  • The hiring of Randy Grubb for seasonal work starting April 1, 2019, at $13.47 per hour
  • Paying Ruby Fooks for her training hours starting 01/25/2019 – 01/31/2019 her start date of employment is 02/01/2019.
  • Payment to Howards Locksmith the balance of $156.78 for the Butler County Jail.
  • Payment Butler County Clerk for transfer of file on 4th District VFD – 2019 Chevy $37
  • Payment of $35,000.00 to Butler County Conservation District.
  • Taking bids on King Road Open Dump Cleanup.
  • 1st reading on Budget Amendment.
  • Bills and Transfers
  • County/City Clean Up Days are March 28, 29, and 30th
