FISCAL COURT: Dumps & Roads among items discussed

Allen Smith and Kevin Phelps

Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, July 24. Magistrates Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant attended.

Under old business, the court approved renting a 35 mini-trackhoe to help clean up illegal dumps in the county. According to Allen Smith, the cost is $2,800 per month. Help from the jail work crew and Kentucky Christian Recovery will assist with the cleanup. The court decided to take care of the illegal dumps to save money for the county instead of bidding those out.

In new business, the court approved the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Flex Funding for roads in Butler County.  Roads included are Paradise View, Doe Run, Charlie Whitaker, New Cut North, N. Gill Cemetery, Alum Springs, and Sunny Lane-Richelieu. In addition, Hidden Valley and Adam Flener roads will receive some upgrades.

The court approved the purchase of a dump truck for the county road department. The cost is $130,500 and the Court will finance $100,000 at Morgantown Bank & Trust.

Third District Magistrate Allen Smith asked for $500 of his "celebration" money be given to the Rochester Ladies League for their July 4 celebration. The request was approved.

The court approved advertising for generator bids for the health department, road department, and communication tower. The federal government will pay 90 percent of the cost, the state will provide 7 percent, and the county 3 percent of the costs.
