Fiscal Court approves bid for voting machines, janitorial contract, & new trucks for jail, rescue squad

Judge Flener reports on regional jail feasibility study with Edmonson and Ohio counties

Butler County Fiscal Court met in regular session on Monday, December 13, at the courthouse.  All magistrates - Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Timmy Givens, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant - and Judge/Executive Tim Flener -  were in attendance and some were even wearing festive ties marking the holiday season.

Getting down to business, the Court approved the only bid for voting machines from Harp. The cost for 11 devices is $119,763; the county currently owns two of the same scanners.

Magistrates also approved a bid from Jennifer Deweese for janitorial service for $22,000 per year.

Butler County Jailer Ricky Romans asked the Court to purchase a truck for the work crew from commissary money. The vehicle from the state contract is a one-ton, long bed, 4X4 Chevy at the cost of $36,460. Magistrates approved the purchase.

The Court authorized Judge/Executive Tim Flener to sign a loan at Morgantown Bank to purchase a Butler County Rescue Squad truck. The cost is $46,170, which will be paid back at $10,300 per year for five years.

Magistrates agreed to accept a $1,000 grant from Wal-Mart for the Butler County Senior Citizen Center and decided to add $254.12 to the grant to purchase two recliners.

The Court then went into a work session with the Butler County Property Corporation, which is made up of the same group. They added Kevin Phelps to the Board of Directors and approved a resolution for Judge Flener to sign concerning the proposed  judicial center.

Judge Flener updated the Court on the Regional Jail Feasibility Study with Edmonson County and Ohio County.

" We are still in the preliminary stage and trying to work out details," said Flener.

Fifth District Magistrate Dillon Bryant asked about widening the Adam Flener Road on the Caneyville end. Bryant said it involved about ten landowners and asked what he needed to start the process. Bryant was referred to County Attorney Dick Deye.
