Fire destroys home on Mooretown Road

An early-morning fire has destroyed a home at 1547 Mooretown Road in Butler County.  Local firefighters were dispatched to scene shortly after 2:30 a.m. Monday morning.

According to a Beech Tree News reporter at the scene, the owner of the residence, James McCoy, was awakened by his son telling him that the house was on fire.  McCoy, his son, and two dogs made it out of the house but the cat wasn't so lucky.

According to McCoy, the fire was observed coming out of the ceiling and he suspects it originated in the attic.

The home was a total loss.

Firefighters with the Morgantown Volunteer Fire Department responded to the fire.
