Fields Recognized for Sportsmanship

On Sunday, Butler County High School Senior Sierra Fields attended the 2013 Forcht Bank/KHSAA Sportsmanship Recognition Program.  This program was held to honor the regional winners of the competition.  The Forcht Bank/KHSAA Sportsmanship Recognition Program started 17 years ago with the goal of recognizing those who display good sportsmanship and are involved in leadership roles within his or her community.  The program is open to all seniors who have played a sport in the KHSAA.  In order to qualify for consideration in the program, each student must have a GPA of 2.5 or higher, and verify that they have not been disqualified from a KHSAA event because of unsportsmanlike conduct.

The competition starts off at the local level, with one male and one female being selected from each school.  Then, the local winners are narrowed down to 32 regional winners, one male and female from all 16 regions.  Fields was selected as the female winner for the 3rd region.  She was invited to the KHSAA Offices in Lexington on Sunday in order to be recognized for this prestigious award.  There she attended a dinner and met the other regional winners from all across the state.  Tucker Ballinger, 17 year President of Forcht Bank, said this at the event: “You’re not a winner because of how many games you’ve won, but how you play the game.”  Fields will also obtain a $350 scholarship for being selected as a regional finalist.

Because Fields displayed good sportsmanship and was selected as a regional winner, she will receive a $350 scholarship awarded by Forcht Bank and the KHSAA.
