Field Day Planned for Butler County

2020 has changed the way all of us conduct our lives.  The UK Cooperative Extension Service will offer a “virtual” field day and farm tour on October 27th at 6:00 p.m. via ZOOM.

County Agents from around the Mammoth Cave Area have worked together to produce a fun and educational evening simulating, as close as possible, an agriculture field day.  We will have tours of 3 farms.  We will tour the McKinney Farm in Butler County.  They produce field corn and market it to hunters.  Our second tour will be Ricky Keen Farm in Simpson County.  Ricky has installed a winter feeding area to keep his beef cattle from having to fight the mud when they eat hay during the winter months.  Our final stop is the Lyons Farm in Monroe County.  They will be producing strawberries in a high tunnel.

The program will last 1 hour and we are asking everyone to register in advance.  For registration information please contact the Extension Office at 526-3767 or e-mail Greg Drake II at [email protected]   There is no cost to attend this program.

For more information, contact the Butler County Extension Office of the University of Kentucky Cooperative Extension Service at 102 Parkway Lane, Morgantown or by calling 270-526-3767.

Educational programs of the Cooperative Extension Service serve all people regardless of economic or social status and will not discriminate on the basis of race, color, ethnic origin, national origin, creed, religion, political belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expressions, pregnancy, marital status, genetic information, age, veteran status, or physical or mental disability.

Irrigation tape is installed before weed control fabric in the high tunnel.  Strawberries were planted in September.
