Fatal Collision Involving a Van vs Grain Truck

Bowling Green, KY (December 15, 2016) Kentucky State Police responded to a  2 vehicle  collision on Interstate 65 at the 22 mile marker in Bowling Green today at 11:13 a.m.  involving a Commercial Motor Vehicle and a Dodge Caravan.

The preliminary investigation indicated that 35-year old Steaven May of Morgantown was operating a 1999 Dodge caravan South on Scottsville Road.  May was making a right hand turn onto the on ramp to Interstate 65 traveling south when he continued straight through the grass gore.  May traveled into the slow lane on the interstate into the path of a 1999 Peterbilt being operated by 51-year old David Hancock of Greensburg.  Hancock’s vehicle then overturned spilling the trailer load of corn blocking all three lanes of I-65.  The interstate was closed for 5 hours while crews investigated the collision.

May was pronounced dead at the scene by the Warren County Coroner.  May was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the collision.  Hancock was wearing his seat belt and was not injured.

Sr. Ofc. Chris Duke is investigating the collision and was assisted on scene by Sgt. Randy Honeycutt, Sr. Ofc. Jason Sydnor, Troopers from Post 3 Bowling Green, Warren Co. Sheriff’s Office, Coroner’s Office, Alvaton Fire Department and MedCom EMS.  No other details are available for release at this time.
