Fatal Accident on Brownsville Road

A Butler County woman died Thursday in a two-vehicle accident on Brownsville Road (Hwy 70).

Killed in the wreck was Janice Embry, 57, of Morgantown.

According to Deputy Trey Flener of the Butler County Sheriff's Office, Embry was traveling east toward Brownsville in a 2000 model Mercury on Hwy 70 approximately 3-tenths of a mile from the Hwy 79/70 caution lights. Flener said Emily Santilli, 22, of Morgantown was traveling west in a 2005 Dodge Neon when she lost control and skidded on the wet roadway. Flener said Santilli's vehicle struck Embry's vehicle head-on in the front passenger side, and that Embry then left the roadway. Emergency personnel were dispatched to the scene at approximately 2:55 pm.

Embry was transported from the scene by Butler County EMS to the Medical Center  in Bowling Green where she was pronounced dead by the Warren County Coroner's Office. Santilli was transported by the Air Evac Life Team to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with serious injuries. No update is available on her condition. Deputy Flener said both drivers were wearing seatbelts, and that drug/alcohol use was not a factor in the accident.

Responding were Sheriff Scottie Ward and Deputy Trey Flener from the Butler County Sheriff's Office, the Butler County Rescue Squad, Butler County EMS, Edmonson County EMS and the Air Evac Life Team.
