Farmers Daughter & Co. opens in Morgantown

New local business to offer handcrafted gifts and farm-fresh produce

-----

Morgantown is welcoming a new local business that aims to revive the charm of handcrafted gifts and farm-fresh produce.

"Farmers Daughter and Company and Specialties LLC" recently opened its doors, offering a wide array of locally made goods, adding a touch of nostalgia to the community.

The business is located at 125 West G.L. Smith Street in Morgantown, just down from True Value Hardware. Store hours are Tuesday through Thursday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are closed Sunday and Monday.

Tonya Lane, the owner of the new establishment, shared her motivation for starting the business in Morgantown.

"Well, I chose to start my business here because I was born and raised right here in Morgantown and still live here. I grew up on a farm here hence the name Farmers Daughter and Company and Specialties LLC," said Lane.  "I have always enjoyed handcrafted gifts and decor. You used to see tons of it in little shops and road stands but now it’s mostly on Facebook or other outlets. I miss those days when you could walk into a local store and find some farm fresh produce and handmade goods from local folk."

Lane's desire to bring back the nostalgic experience of discovering unique handcrafted items led her to embark on this venture.

"I mentioned to my girls what a shame it was that the internet took over that type of establishment, and wouldn't it be great if we could do something like that," she explained. "They all agreed and a dream was born. I dove in full steam with their support."

With the support of her daughters, Lane found a rental space, obtained the necessary permits, and began advertising for local vendors to participate in her vision. The response from the community was overwhelming, with many artisans and farmers eagerly joining the endeavor.

"It has been exhausting, frightening, and wonderful!" Lane exclaimed, describing her journey of setting up the business. "My girls have pitched in and helped with everything every step of the way, and great friends and my family have as well. I am extremely proud and grateful for everyone who has supported this from the beginning and am looking forward to seeing how this adventure grows," added Lane

Farmers Daughter and Company and Specialties LLC provides a platform for local artists, crafters, and farmers to showcase their products and connect with the community. Visitors can expect to find a diverse range of handmade crafts, unique decor items, and fresh produce sourced directly from local farms.

The business not only offers an opportunity for local entrepreneurs to showcase their skills and products, but it also fosters a sense of community by encouraging residents to support and appreciate the talents and offerings of their neighbors.

With the dedication and support of the Morgantown community, Tonya Lane and her daughters are determined to bring back the essence of handcrafted goods and farm-fresh produce to the local landscape. As they embark on this exciting adventure, their vision is set on fostering a vibrant community that values local craftsmanship and celebrates the rich heritage of Morgantown.
