Farm Bill Sign-Up Going on Now

Matthew Hampton’s grain cart during the harvest season of 2019.

Grain Farmers and those that own farmland where grain crops are produced need to be signing up now.  The new farm bill allows farmers to enroll in arc or plc and to update their yields.  These decisions are complex and a series of educational programs has been offered by extension to help people understand the program.  The last on being offered here is Feb. 27th at 9:00 a.m. at the extension office.  The deadline to sign up for the program is March 15, 2020.  If someone does not sign up for the new program their farm will be enrolled in the same thing it was for the last farm bill, but they will forfeit the 2019 payment should there be one and they will lose the rare opportunity to update their farm’s plc yield.  Kansas State University has some excellent educational materials regarding the farm bill sign up.  I would encourage anyone not able to attend the Feb. 27th session to study their “farm bill” web site.
