Eyes For Detail- 2012 Jr. Livestock Show

With one eye on their animal and the other on the judge, participants placed their preparation on display Thursday night. The event was the 2012 Butler County Jr. Livestock Show, a part of the Catfish Festival, held at the Eva J. Hawes community building. The show was open to youth 9-19 who are enrolled in the 4H or FFA market lamb, beef or goat project.

FFA advisor and agriculture teacher, Lee Ann Daugherty, served as announcer while Darrin Benton performed judging duties. Entries from as far away as Cadiz, Ky took part. The photos shown here are but a sample.

TOTAL OF 56 HEAD OF LIVESTOCK AND 22 YOUTH SHOWING DESPITE THE HEAT!!

Rabbit Show winner was Olivia Dunn with her two breeding rabbits.

Cattle show had 4 classes with 6 animals.

Beef Show Grand Champion = Mallory Whitson, Lewisburg

Dairy Show Grand Champion = Emily Hunt's Brown Swiss heifer shown by Erin Tyree

Dairy Show Reserve Grand Champion = Laura Hunt's Holstein Heifer

Dairy Novice Grand Champion = Erin Tyree with Brown Swiss heifer


**All Dairy show participants were from Butler County; dairy animals raised at H & S Dairy at Davis Crossroads.

Sheep had 6 classes and 14 head of sheep ranging in weight from 71 pounds to 111 pounds. There were 7 youth exhibitors from 4 counties. Carlee Mitchell and Chelsea Daugherty from Butler County were showing sheep. Carlee Mitchell won two classes. Grand Champion = Catherine Cowles, Rockfield; Reserve Grand Champion = Mandy Kessinger, Beaver Dam. Novice Grand and Novice Reserve grand Champion animals belonged to Connor Cobb, Bowling Green.

Goats had 11 classes and 35 head of goats ranging in weight from 43 pounds to 90 pounds. There were 11 youth exhibitors from 6 counties. Novice Grand Champion was Aiden Frye, Cadiz and Novice Reserve Grand Champion was Emma Edler, Russellville.

Grand Champion Goat = Cory Wallace, Hopkinsville and Reserve Grand Champion = Nicole Stewart, Rockfield

** Note: a Novice is someone under age 9 (4-H age).
