Eyes on Chicago – Layla Ogden in Gatorade Player of the Year Conversation
South Warren High School junior co-captain Layla Ogden has been officially nominated for the 2025 Gatorade Player of the Year in Kentucky, a prestigious national recognition awarded annually to the top high school athletes in each state.
The final selections will be made by the Gatorade Selection Committee, based out of Chicago, IL, with the list of state winners set to be announced on Monday, June 9 at 8:00 AM EST.
It’s important to note that the Gatorade Player of the Year Program does not release a list of finalists, so the sports media has no official preview of who remains in contention. However, players may be informed of their nomination by the individual who submitted it. Layla Ogden was nominated in early May.
Ogden’s season stats have made a resounding statement. She leads Kentucky in home runs (24), RBIs (75), and batting average (.529), while ranking #11 nationally in home runs.
On the mound, Ogden has compiled a 12-1 record with 105 strikeouts, just 12 walks, and a 1.10 ERA over 76 innings. She also threw 2 perfect games, 3 no-hitters, and earned signature wins against top programs from Florida and Alabama.
In addition to her nomination for Gatorade POY, Ogden has received multiple regional and national honors, including:
-
NFCA/MaxPreps National Player of the Week – South Central Region (Week of May 21)
-
14th District Tournament MVP
-
4th Region All-Tournament Team
Layla Ogden’s nomination and accolades underscore a truly dominant year for both her and the South Warren Softball program, firmly placing her in the national spotlight.
