Excited About Science: 70 kids take part in Super Saturday

The 7th annual Super Saturday was held Saturday, March 11 at the high school.  The annual event features high school science club members serving as the teachers in an effort to get students excited about science.

"We usually have about 35 kids in attendance and 25 high school students helping," said Jennifer Davis, high school science teacher and organizer of the event.  "This year we had 70 kids and many we had to turn away due to deadlines of ordering food and supplies.  We had a total of over 100 people involved."

Sponsors for the 2017 Super Saturday were the Butler County Youth Service Center, Butler County Family Resource Center, Modern Woodman, RC Cola, Donorschoose.org, Butler County Board of Education, and Western Kentucky University.  The guest speaker was Deneatra Henderson, who is an engineer.  According to Davis, this project was a year in the making to acquire all the funds and order all the technology and supplies.

"The goal of the program is to inspire our young students to get excited about science and have an opportunity to dig in and expand their knowledge," said Davis.  "Science can often fall to the bottom of the checklist with all the high-stakes testing required of our schools."
