Emmick's Bears gear up for Ft. Knox in homecoming match-up

Fort Knox High School

Butler County (2-0) opens its home season Friday night with a homecoming contest against Fort Knox (1-1).  BCHS Homecoming festivities will commence at 6:20 p.m. with the opening kick-off set for 7 p.m.

BC Coach Ryan Emmick expects a solid team to roll into Morgantown on Friday night.

"Ft. Knox is a very athletic team.  They are led by #7 Brandon Franklin at quarterback.  Franklin is a very good QB, one of the best we will see this season.  Ft. Knox puts the ball in his hands almost every play and uses his abilities to move the ball offensively," said Emmick.  "Ft. Knox will have as much speed as we have seen this season.  They are very athletic at the receiver position and we must play our techniques well to be successful."

Coach Emmick hopes last week's victory over Breckinridge will pay off, especially in dealing with Ft. Knox's defense.

"Defensively ,Ft. Knox will run a 4-3 cover 2, similar to what we saw against Breck.  They play aggressively and bring pressure on most downs," said Emmick.  "Definitely this is a good early season test for us and we have to prepare all week long mentally for the game."

Mistakes and metal preparation are keys for Butler County as they head into week three in good shape on the injury front.

"We have to focus on taking care of our mistakes. 14 penalties for over 100 yards is inexcusable.  We were not mentally focused this past Friday night (against Breck) and it hurt us," said Emmick.  "We are going to work on taking care of our mistakes and getting back to doing what we do.  We will take care of the mental mistakes this week in practice."

Will homecoming be a distraction for the Bears?  Not likely.

"We are mainly concerned with what happens when the ball is kicked off.  Homecoming is a great time for Butler County High School and the parents and students," said Emmick.  "We cannot get distracted on the field and will prepare as normal for the game on Friday."

Ft. Knox lost 23-15 to Elizabethtown the first week  before picking up a 27-6 win over Hart County last week.

The Bears are undefeated with wins over Logan County (27-13) and Breckinridge County (33-10).
