Elmore, Johnson, Hampton and Jarboe Named Governor's Scholars

Tyler Johnson, Tristan Elmore, Chanda Hampton, and Kayley Jarboe.

Juniors Tristan Elmore, Tyler Johnson, Chanda Hampton, and Kayley Jarboe were selected to the prestigious Governor’s Scholars Program this week.  The Governor’s Scholars Program was established in 1983 with the goal to enhance the academic and personal growth of Kentucky’s future leaders.  The Butler County Students underwent a very long application process.  The GSP Application focuses on academic achievement, community service, honors, and awards.  The application also contains a leadership project and an essay.  Students also required two recommendations from teachers within their school.  After completing this application, the school selects a committee to review these applications and select the best five.  These five are then sent on to the state competition.  Over 2,000 students apply for GSP every year and about 1,200 make the cut.

Elmore, Johnson, Hampton, and Jarboe will all receive a letter in the next couple of days assigning them one of three colleges: Murray State University, Bellarmine University, or Morehead State University.  The students will then spend 5 weeks at that college this summer.  The students will also be assigned a Focus Area.  This Focus Area is the class they will be attending mostly and ranges from Business to Theatre and Biological Studies.  The scholars will also attend a Seminar session that stimulates conversation and allows them to experience other people’s points of view.   The students will also participate in many community service activities as well.
Tristan Elmore is the son of Scott and Felicia Elmore.
Tyler Johnson is the son of Brian and Robbie Johnson.
Chanda Hampton is the daughter of Steve and Jan Hampton.
Kayley Jarboe is the daughter of Kevin Jarboe and Lesile and Dirk Adkins.
