Eight people indicted on "organized crime" charges for allegedly attempting to traffick drugs in BC Jail

A group of individuals has been indicted by a Butler County Grand Jury following a possible attempt to bring methamphetamines into the Butler County Jail for possible trafficking purposes.  One individual allegedly involved was a deputy jailer, Vanaaron Turgeon.  He was among those indicted and has since been fired from the jail.

Local jail and law enforcement officers are not commenting at this time as the investigation is ongoing. The Morgantown Police Department is conducting the investigation.

The actions of those involved were apparently facilitated via "Chirping," which is the product name that allows inmates to text friends and family members.  Texts are monitored by jail personnel and this is apparently how the alleged criminal activity was discovered.

Turgeon (DOB 10-30-92) is charged with engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, and promoting contraband in the first degree.

Others indicted by the grand jury and allegedly involved in the case are as follows:

Hannah Swift (DOB 4-23-01):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, possession of a controlled substance in the first degree (meth), drug paraphernalia -buy/possess, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, and promoting contraband in the first degree.  Address listed as Morgantown, KY.

Marvin McGuffin (DOB 10-20-80):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, and promoting contraband in the first degree.  Address listed as Butler County Jail.

Tiffany L. Swift (DOB 3-18-96):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree and promoting contraband in the first degree.  Address listed as Butler County Jail.

Tony L. White (10-4-83):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, promoting contraband in the first degree, and persistent felony offender in the first degree.  Address listed at Butler County Jail.

Paul R. Cameron, Jr. (DOB 3-8-02):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, promoting contraband in the first degree, and persistent felony offender in the second degree.  Address listed as Simpson Co. Detention Center.

Stephen E. Baskerville (DOB 9-27-98):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, promoting contraband in the first degree, and persistent felony offender in the second degree.  Address listed as Ohio Co. Detention Center.

April Lacefield (DOB 7-7-85):  Charges are engaging in organized crime, trafficking in a controlled substance in the first degree, promoting contraband in the first degree.  Address listed as Morgantown, KY but she is currently in the Hardin Co. Detention Center.

Based on the criminal indictments, the individuals above "committed the offense of Engaging in Organized Crime" and "participated in a criminal syndicate with the purpose of trafficking in methamphetamine" between the dates of February 1 and February 12, 2022.

Although the apparent intent was to traffick drugs inside the jail, there is no evidence to indicate that any drugs actually made it into the jail but were rather intercepted prior to entry.

A grand jury indictment represents only one side  in a criminal proceeding and is not a final determination of guilt.  A ruling of guilty or not guilty will ultimately be determined  by a jury following trial.
