Eagle Scout Award to Be Presented

Cody Daniel Calhoun

Cody Daniel Calhoun, of 85 Voting House Road, Morgantown, Kentucky, has earned the highest advacement award that the Boy Scouts of America offers to Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award.
Cody Calhoun will be recognized in ceremonies on August 1st, 2014 at 6:00pm at the Chapel Union Missionary Baptist Church on Hwy 79 in Welch's Creek.
A member of Morgantown Methodist Church Charter organization, Troop 208, Calhoun is one of approximately 4% of all Boy Scouts who attain the Eagle rank, according to the history of boy scouts. There are 6 known Eagle Scouts in Butler County and now Calhoun makes 7 outstanding citizens of our community.
Each candidate must earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a community , church, or synagoque related service project to earn his Eagle; Calhoun chose to make a memorial for his community and his church to remember those who have served God and our Country in the Cementary next to his church.
He has served as Quarter Master, Assistant patrol leader, chaplain aid, and assistant due handler for the troop. Calhoun joins other outstanding American Citizens from 6 of whom  are in our County in this incredible achievement among them former President Gerald R. Ford, Jr., astronaut Neil A. Armstrong, forer mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomber, and the head of the F.B.I., William Sessions.
Calhoun is a member of Chapel Union Missionary Baptist Church and is active in his church, R.O.T.C, Native American Education, and a great role model for others at Butler County High School where he is a Senior this year. He is the son of Hawk and Regina Laughing.
