"Selfie Station" to raise awareness of organ donation

Garrett Embry is was the first new driver to try out the selfie station.

Butler County Circuit Clerk Melissa Cardwell has noticed that newly-licensed drivers like to take "selfies" of themselves with their new driver's license.  Now, they will be able to do so while at the same time bringing attention to organ donation.  It is also a safer way to post that proud moment as some reports have indicated that identities have been stolen when newly-licensed drivers have posted their actual driver's license on Facebook.

Cardwell has implemented a new program at the Butler County Circuit Clerk's office - a "selfie station."  When a new driver gets his or her license and agrees to become an organ donor, they can take a "selfie" at the clerk's office and then post later on social media.  Cardwell also posts them on the Butler County Circuit Clerk's Facebook page.  #drivebutler

According to Cardwell, posting the "selfie" from the clerk's office is safer than what many new drivers are doing - posting a "selfie" with their actual license.  Cardwell said there has been some reports of identity theft.  She also encourages drivers to use the hastage #drivebutler when posting their license photo.

Organ donation is a cause that the circuit clerks across Kentucky have long promoted.

Melissa Cardwell

The Kentucky Association of Circuit Court Clerks created the Trust for Life program to educate Kentuckians about the life-saving mission of organ donation. Organ donation provides hope to thousands of Kentuckians across our state each year. Cardwell urges newly-licensed drivers and those renewing their license to consider becoming an organ donor and donating $1 when you renew.
