Dr. Wan's Head Start Christmas
On Tuesday, December 18th a Morgantown Christmastime tradition happened once again with Dr. Wan's annual Head Start Christmas. For the past 28 years the Head Start children have received gifts furnished by the good doctor.
According to Clara Mathews, Head Start manager and a special services instructor, some of the children might not receive gifts for the holiday if not for Dr. wan's generosity. She spoke of one mother that confided that her child's only gifts would come from the Head StartChristmas. All told 34 kid received bags containing three gifts each.
This year Dr. Wan was able to leave his clinic for a few minutes to help Santa hand out the gifts and get pictures made with the children. Also helping was Becky Harvey, but Cindy Black-- who does the shopping each year--was ill and unable to attend. Cindy said that she and Becky begin shopping in the summer in order to get bargains on the toys. Wrapping the items takes a couple of days. Ray Wallace helps pack everything up and also stands in for Santa on occasion.
Cindy and Dr. Wan are already looking forward to next years event and anticipate it could be the largest yet.
