Don Locke: Lookin Thru the Bifocals

I only had a passing acquaintance with Roy, a real likable guy, lots of friends; Roy taught on agriculture over in the eastern part of the state. We passed and repassed at state Ag teachers conferences each summer.
Tragically Roy’s life was cut short over 25 feet of road right away.. Was it worth it?  No
Why do we put too much value on the things we own…. things and stuff things of this world. The Bible calls these things Temporal: In plain English” they ain’t going to last forever,” the land, fine houses, boats, cars, you name it. The Bible tells us that all this will pass away.  We may go before they do but the things of this earth will likewise follow. John saw a new heaven and a new earth.  in reality we really own nothing-- God lets us use it a while; it's not ours though.
We will give it up it, may not be until he comes back to Claim us or we may meet Him in death before then.  We do know there'll be no U-Haul Trailers pulled by that big black hearse we're riding in.
Getting back to the bad thing I started with.  I'm pretty sure if my friend Roy could speak to us he would say let go of things that don't matter that much; they're not worth it.  They certainly weren't worth the lives of three people.  Roy and his cranky neighbor got into a dispute over 25 feet of an old dirt road, both claimed they owned it. Roy told the neighbor, “We will just settle it for good.” Roy hired a licensed surveyor.  Roy, his wife and the surveyor went to the spot of contention and begin to set up the surveying equipment.  Driving the stakes etc..
The neighbor came to where they were driving stakes and killed all three of them with a shotgun, Roy his wife and the surveyor. Over an old piece of dirt road which by the way will also be owned by nobody. It you will be gone…” the old heaven and earth have passed away.”

Kindest regards….
