Don Locke: Lookin Thru Bifocals

Scraps of words and thoughts from the forum of life-so good, so-far: my life….

Why? The Bible says: “Train up a child in the way he should go”: (A grandmother) - “Alan out three year old son says easily I love you, but it doesn’t mean a thing. The next day when I refuse to give him something he wants, he may just as easily say: “I don’t like you at all”.

Sometimes we feel it is beyond our ability to comprehend the sense of the world. For instance: if the world were a sensible place, men would ride sidesaddle…. No charge for that.

Believe in God and you will face hours when it seems obvious that the material (natural) world is all there is. Disbelieve in Him and you may face hours when this material world seems to shout at you, “This is not all.” (C.S. Lewis)

The human mind has no more power of inventing a new value than of planting a new sun in the sjy, or a new primary color in the spectrum… “We call old notions fudge and bend our actions to their dealings. The Ten Commandments will not budge; stealing is still stealing.” (C.S. Lewis)

The Bible is not necessarily the “Good Book”. The Psalmist in Psalms 109 lays bare his soul, harboring bitter, chronic resentment, against things done to him. The Bible is an honest book.

As a result of the November elections, and in the light of new folks taking office, it is well to remember: Many times Power corrupts; power has a tendency to allow the “insolence of office” to creep in.

Christian writer, C.S. Lewis: “Even if all external things went tight, real happiness would still depend on the character of the people you live with. Even if you became a millionaire, your wife could still nag you; your husband could be a bully. Your son could still drink-or maybe worse. Or, your mother-in-law could come to live with you. Lastly, or man attempting to create new values: “In those days there was no being in Israel (to guide in obeying God’s Commandments); everyone did what was right in his own eyes.” (Judges 17:6) I hope some of my wanderings and yonderings made sense….

Kindest regards
