Dockery named BCHS boys' b-ball coach; Emmick, Embry to share AD duties

Butler County High School Principal and Athletic Director Patrick O'Driscoll has named Calvin Dockery head coach of the Bears' basketball team and Ryan Emmick and Brandon Embry as co-athletic directors. Dockery will be filling the vacancy left by Greg Woodcock, while Emmick and Embry will follow O'Driscoll as A.D.

O'Driscoll says that he is excited about the future of Butler County basketball. "With Calvin, we're excited because he knows our students having coached for so long at Butler County Middle School. He has coached most of the kids and they know him as well," said O'Driscoll, "We were looking for someone who will stay here and we know that Calvin will stay and work with us through the good years and the lean years."

Dockery believes the BCHS program has tremendous potential not only this year but for the years to come. "The pieces are in place for several successful years. This group has a lot of potential; I believe we can compete for a district championship."

Dockery had served as the boys' head basketball coach at BCMS for the past nine years. However, Dockery said the time had come to challenge himself and take a different path. "This is my dream job. I love Butler County and have a tremendous belief in the people that live here, and there's nowhere else I would rather be. I feel blessed to have this opportunity."

Ryan Emmick

As for Athletic Director, O'Driscoll said that he was looking to hire someone from inside of the high school when Emmick, a teacher at BCMS, approached him about sharing the duties with Embry, a BCHS social studies teacher. He said the two have agreed to split the job responsibilities as well as the stipend.

"I am real pleased with the selection of Ryan and Brandon. They have already jumped into their new roles and have made a volleyball schedule for the upcoming season," said O'Driscoll.

Emmick and Embry are used to working together to accomplish tasks; Emmick is the head football coach at BCHS, while Embry serves as an assistant on the staff.

Brandon Embry

"Brandon is a great guy to work with, he's organized, hard working, and diligent. I think we'll make a good team to make sure we keep Butler County athletics heading in the right direction," said Emmick. He added, "We want to make sure that the needs of Butler County athletics are met and we are working together to make sure it gets done the right way."

In addition to filling the athletic director and basketball coaching vacancies, Jimmy and Angie Arnold were announced as the vollleyball coaches.

Congratulations Calvin. If your kids play ball, you couldn't ask for a nicer guy to help mold these young men into outstanding people as well as atheletes. I had the pleasure to watch Calvin play h.s. ball. He always hustled and played with heart. I expect he'll get the same out of his players. Go Bears!
