Deweese, Merritt, Johnson, Givens, Embry, Locke win election to Morgantown City Council; Raymer elected state representative

Newcomer Amy Deweese will join five incumbents to make up the next Morgantown City Council.  In her first political campaign, Deweese was the top vote getter at 294.  She was followed by Dionne Cannon Merritt with 285 votes, Sharon Johnson at 283, Russell Givens with 280, Dustin Embry at 265, and Bryan Locke with 234 votes.  The new council will take over in January 2023.  Julie Scott rounded out the field with 214 votes. 

Republican Rebecca Raymer won big in both Butler and Muhlenberg and will now represent those counties in the Kentucky General Assembly for District 15.  

Raymer received 3,526 votes (84.3%) in the county to 653 for Britt Hernandez-Stevenson.  Across the 15th District (Butler and Muhlenberg counties), Raymer received 10,709 votes, compared to 3,729 for Hernandez-Stevenson.  

 

U.S. Senator Rand Paul and U.S. Rep. Brett Guthrie easily won reelection to their seats. 

Paul, a Republican, cruised past his Democratic opponent Charles Booker, 3,429 to 589.  Republican Brett Guthrie received 3,569 to 609 for Democrat Hank Linderamn,

Paul and Guthrie won 81.7% and 85.4% in the county, respectively.  

 

 Although Amendment #1 (General Assembly special sessions) and Amendment #2 (abortion) both passed in Butler County, neither prevailed statewide.  On Amendment #1, YES received 2,222 votes, while NO recorded 1,399.  For Amendment #2, YES tallied 2,611 votes, and NO received 1,377.
