County treasurer hired; conservation district budget approved
Butler County Fiscal Court met at the courthouse on Monday, April 28. All magistrates attended: Stevie Givens, Kevin Phelps, Allen Smith, David Whittinghill, and Dillon Bryant.
After approving the minutes of the previous meeting and with no old business on the agenda, magistrates went straight into new business.
The court approved the VFIS insurance ( insurance for the needs of fire departments, EMS agencies, communication centers, and emergency services) for fiscal years 2025-26.
Darren Rice presented the Butler County Conservation District budget to the court. The court allotted $40,000 to the District, and Rice asked for an additional $5,000 for the following year. Magistrates approved the extra request.
After going into a closed session, the court approved two hirings. They hired Drema Nicewinter on a 4-1 vote as the new Butler County Treasurer (salary $55,000) to replace Angie Pendley; David Whittinghill voting nay.
They also hired Timmy Fishburn for the county road department ( salary $17.50-$18 per hour after probation).
The court approved the following additional items:
--County Extension Service Budget
--Pre-approval list for the 25-26 budget.
--Gave Judge/Executive Tim Flener the authority to approve and sign the Bryant Ridge Road plan
--Quote of $9,500 for the ADA door access
--Advertise for the Animal Shelter and Electric work at the Woodbury RV Park
--Litter Abatement payments
--Pay the Transient Tax to BC Tourism
--Pay RV Park Transient and Sales Tax
--Reed's Ferry House Electrical Repair
--Transfers of $35,000 to the Jail Fund and $20,000 to the E911 Fund from the General Fund
--Bills and Transfers
