Coping with Covid-19: Jones Funeral Chapel

With the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc across the globe, it seems no one is immune from making major changes in their lives both personally and professionally. Beech Tree News (BTN) is grateful for other businesses in our community that, when facing challenges related to Covid-19, have risen to be a bright spot during a difficult time. Recently, BTN asked many local businesses how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted them. Below begins a series of articles featuring those businesses that have responded, beginning with Jones Funeral Chapel and Monument Company.

According to co-owner Marty Jones, Covid -19 has affected not only Jones Funeral Chapel but funeral homes across the country. Each state has set forth guidelines. Jones said that he and the rest of the staff are abiding by the regulations from Governor Andy Beshear, guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control, the Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky and the National Funeral Directors Association.

Major ways the new guidelines set forth by the various above agencies include limiting the amount of people able to attend a funeral to ten people or less or to immediate family only. It also impacts the way Jones and his staff make contact with families with having social distancing in place.

With a time of loss being one which people want to gather around a family and show them support, social distancing is especially taxing.

"The staff is working with each individual family to see what is best for them in the situation we are all in," said Jones.

According to Jones, this includes offering webcasting of funeral services through a professional webcasting service, drive-thru visitation, and online guest book and memorials such as lighting a candle in memory, leaving condolences and uploading pictures - all through their website -  www.jonesfuneralchapel.com

Despite the challenges, the Jones Funeral Chapel remains committed to continue working for the people of Butler County.

In November of 1979 we made a commitment to Butler County and surrounding counties to serve with compassion, honor and dignity and strive for excellence. During this trying time and the changes, it presents in funeral service we stay committed to honor and serve with the same compassion, dignity, and excellence," said Jones.

"Our roots are 40 years and 2nd generation deep. Family continues to run day-to-day operations. Whether it is a Covid-19 death or any other death, we will continue to be here for our friends and neighbors in this great community we all love.”
