Coping with Covid-19: Green River Waste

With the Coronavirus/Covid-19 pandemic wreaking havoc across the globe, it seems no one is immune from making major changes in their lives both personally and professionally. Beech Tree News (BTN) is grateful for other businesses in our community that, when facing challenges related to Covid-19, have risen to be a bright spot during a difficult time. Recently, BTN asked many local businesses how the Covid-19 pandemic has impacted them. In a recent series of articles, we have featured those businesses that have responded. In this article, we highlight Green River Waste.

According to owner Lewis White, they have made similar changes in office procedures as many other businesses such as limiting customers in the office, taking more over the phone payments and processing more customer service over the phone.  The employees on the pickup routes are also being more cautious when picking up trash.

“Also, we implemented a policy that we are only dumping what is in the residential trash toters, not any extra that is left outside the toter.   This is to limit what the workers are having to handle to lower their exposure,” White explains.

As many businesses are open amended hours, are closed or have had to modify the way they do business in other manners, he says some business accounts have had to decrease their level of service. “For example, restaurants are only being picked up once a week instead of twice a week,” White says. “However,” he adds, “residential service is increasing, due to children and parents being at home.”

He indicates that residential landfill tonnage has increased greatly. Also, folks are ordering more small dumpsters for home improvement and cleanup projects.
