Cooperatives working together to bring world-class high-speed internet to rural areas

Internet access continues to be a problem in Butler County, which has not gone unnoticed by local officials.

According to Butler County Judge-Executive Tim Flener, "By registering your address and answering a short questionnaire, we will be able to determine when we have enough interest to start building fiber in Butler County." CLICK HERE: https://fiber.nctc.com/

NCTC and Kentucky-based electric cooperative Warren RECC is currently working on a pilot project that will bring high-speed internet to some rural Warren County regions. In a collaboration, Warren RECC will lease dark fiber along their new fiber optic communications backbone to NCTC. NCTC will offer up to a gigabit internet service across Warren RECC's Fiber to the Home (FTTH) to Warren RECC members in the pilot area. The project allows the two organizations to combine their resources and decades of experience to offer affordable, high-speed internet services in a new location and improve the quality of life for Warren RECC members. If the pilot is successful, the companies hope to expand their partnership.

"Providing high-speed internet in rural areas has been and continues to be an important issue nationwide. It is a difficult proposition. If it were not, the large companies would be there already. Fortunately, we have been able to develop a model we think will work, and we look forward to analyzing the results," said Dewayne McDonald, President, and CEO of Warren RECC. "Part of our mission is to improve the quality of life for our members. These pilots represent a giant leap in progress for our members, and we're excited about the momentum."
