Community Action Office Receives Internet Terminal

Officials of Community Action of Southern Kentucky, as well as local officials, were at the Morgantown Community Action Office Wednesday morning to announce the placement of an internet ready computer terminal in the main lobby. The announcement, made by CEO Cheryl Allen, was accompanied the following media release:

“The Broadband Outreach Program is the result of a partnership between Community Action Kentucky, Commonwealth Office of Technology, Commonwealth Office of Broadband Outreach and Development and Broadband Kentucky to ensure more Kentuckians have access to a computer and internet. Community Action Kentucky is placing computers at Community Action offices throughout the state with seven being placed at Community Action of Southern Kentucky sites in Butler, Hart, Metcalfe and Warren Counties.

The Broadband Outreach Program will afford all families of the Commonwealth, especially low income individuals and families, access to computers and high-speed internet in order to compete in today’s digital economy/world. The mission of the technology initiative, operational at Community Action Agencies and in soon to be more than thirty Kentucky counties, is to fill a technology gap for those who aren't familiar with using a computer and/or the internet. Those who come to use the computers will be asked to sign in on sheets found at the computer stations and indicate how they use the computer. There is also a short, one-time, anonymous survey to fill out.

Cheryl Allen, CEO of Community Action of Southern Kentucky said, “We are thrilled to offer this service to those we serve and other citizens in our 10 county area. These computers are ready in Bowling Green to help people search and apply for employment, find educational opportunities, research topics and resources or communicate with family members. Some people may need to familiarize themselves with technology and others may need more access. Either way, these increased opportunities in our communities can help them improve their lives. Bowling Green is just the beginning. We placed computers in Butler, Hart and Metcalfe counties to serve some of our most rural areas with the highest need for this service.”
