City of Morgantown Celebrates Grand Opening of RAFT Pavilion

MORGANTOWN---The Morgantown community gathered on a Misty rainy day to celebrate the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Riverside Artisan and Farmer’s Trade (RAFT) Pavilion, marking the grand opening of the Morgantown Farmer’s Market season on May 3rd. The event drew a large crowd, including city and county officials, local vendors, and enthusiastic shoppers.

The RAFT Pavilion, funded by a grant from the Kentucky Agricultural Development Fund (KADF), provides a vibrant, covered space for vendors and visitors. Mayor Billy Phelps, joined by members of the City Council and other officials, officiated the ribbon-cutting, highlighting the pavilion’s role in supporting local agriculture and artisans.  The RAFT represents more than just a pavilion- it's a symbol of community, connection, and growth," said Mayer Billy Phelps.  "We're proud to support our local farmers and artisans, ans we are excited to see this space become a Saturday morning tradition for Morgantown."

Market Managers Ryan and Angela Emmick expressed their excitement for the milestone. “The RAFT Pavilion gives our vendors a beautiful space to showcase their goods, and we’re thrilled with the turnout today,” Angela Emmick shared. The opening day featured 15 vendors offering a diverse array of fresh fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and handcrafted items, with vendors reporting a strong day of sales.

The lively atmosphere underscored the market’s importance as a community hub. Shoppers browsed stalls filled with seasonal produce, homemade breads, and unique crafts, while children enjoyed the festive vibe. The Morgantown Farmer’s Market will continue to operate every Saturday at the RAFT Pavilion through October 31st, offering residents and visitors a weekly opportunity to support local producers.

The RAFT Pavilion’s opening marks a new chapter for Morgantown, promising a season of connection, commerce, and community spirit. For more information, visit the Morgantown Farmer’s Market Facebook page for more details.
