Christmas Eve Police Chase Ends in Crash; Man Faces Over A Dozen Charges

UPDATES FROM BUTLER COUNTY SHERIFF"S DEPARTMENT AND MORGANTOWN POLICE DEPARTMENT

Time Line Provided by Butler County Sheriff’s Department:
December 24, 2015- Around 6:00am- Lonnie Woosley, James Embry, II and Sarah Bradley broke into David Woosley’s garage at 1811 Brownsville Road and stole 6 guns , tools, and car parts.

 


10:00am- Embry and Bradley dropped Woosley off at 3423 Brooklyn Road.  He stole a 1998 Red Chevy Silverado owned by Leburn Lindsey.
3:45pm- Woosley stole a red F150 Ford Truck on Region Road drove about a mile down Hwy 70.  Parked the truck and stole a white GMC Sonoma from 3018 Region Road belonging to Marshal Tomes.


4:30pm Butler County Sheriff’s Deputy Heath West and KSP Trooper Josh Amos located Embry and Bradley in a stolen 2009 Chevy Colorado with all the stolen items from 1811 Brownsville Road.  In close proximity of the stolen Colorado was the stolen 1998 Chevy Silverado stuck in the mud that Woosley had stolen on Brooklyn Road. Embry and Bradley gave statement that Woosley had left them there on foot.
6:00pm- Woosley stole a purse, groceries, Christmas gifts, $450 cash out of a car on Jolertown Road owned by Jean Ray while driving the stolen car from Region Road.
6:50pm David Woosley returned home from retrieving his stolen property from Threlker Green River Road and caught , his half-brother, Lonnie Woosley exiting his home at 1925 Brownsville Road.   Lonnie Woosley had taken video games, 8guns, clothes, and 2 flat screen televisions.  David Woosley tried to block Lonnie but Lonnie rammed his car with the stolen truck several times and fled.

While on patrol, Officer James Embry received a call from Butler County Dispatch regarding a red GMC Sonoma on Brownsville Road that was possibly involved in vehicle and firearm thefts earlier in the day in Butler County. Officer Embry located the suspect vehicle on Caneyville Road and attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the operator failed to comply with Officer Embry’s signal to stop.  The suspect, Lonnie Woosley, continued north on Caneyville Road to Caneyville where Caneyville Police Department and Grayson County Sheriff Department joined the pursuit. Woosley then proceeded south on KY 185and drove to Edmonson County.  In an attempt to flee, Woosley drove into a field and then fled on foot after his vehicle became disabled. After searching the wood line, Woosley was located in a creek by Officer Embry and Kentucky State Trooper Josh Amos and taken into custody without incident.  Due to his intoxicated state, Woosley was transported by Edmonson County EMS to The Medical Center in Bowling Green for treatment.  During the pursuit, Woosley threw various items from his vehicle trying to cause Officer Embry to lose control of his vehicle. 
Woosley was charged with DUI 1st Offense (drugs), Disregarding Stop Sign, Improper Passing, Improper Turning, Fai;ure to Wear a Seatbelt, Disregarding Traffic Control Device, Fleeing/Evading 1st Degree (vehicle), Fleeing/Evading 1st Degree (foot), Wanton Endangerment1st Degree (5 counts),License to be in Possession and Criminal Littering.  Woosley was lodged in the Butler County Jail. 
Agencies assisting were the Butler County Sheriff Department, Caneyville Police Department, Grayson County Sheriff Department, Edmonson County Sheriff Department, Edmonson County EMS, and Kentucky State Police Post 3.

EDMONSON COUNTY VOICE

A Christmas Eve vehicle pursuit ended in Edmonson County at approximately 7:30 p.m., after police said that a 2001 GMC Sonoma being operated by Lonnie Dale Woosley, 34, of Louisville, Ky crashed in a wheat field owned by Evelyn Raymer, off of KY HWY 185.

Police reported that the pursuit began after a Morgantown Police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the truck after matching the truck's description to a vehicle reported stolen in Butler County earlier that day.

Police said the pursuit went into the Caneyville community of Grayson County and then into the Roundhill community of Edmonson County on Hwy 185 where the chase ended as the truck became stuck in a wheat field. Police reported it was then that Woosley jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot. He was apprehended in a creek approximately 100 yards behind the field after a foot pursuit.

According to the Butler County Sheriff's Office, Woosley was suspect in multiple burglaries and thefts that included the taking of firearms and vehicles from all over Butler County, many of which that had happened earlier that day.
Police also reported that while in custody, Woosley was very belligerent and was shouting and shaking profusely. Officers said Woosley admitted to "shooting-up" Heroin before getting in the vehicle.

Woosley was later taken to the Medical Center at Bowling Green by Edmonson EMS, in the custody of Butler County Sheriff's Office. He is lodged in the Butler County Jail. Woosely will face charges in Butler County including but not limited to, DUI, Fleeing or Evading 1st degree, Wanton Endangerment 1st degree, and multiple theft and burglary charges.

In Edmonson County, Woosley will face charges of Fleeing or Evading 1st (motor vehicle and on foot), eight counts of Receiving Stolen Property (firearm), one count of Receiving Stolen Property (motor vehicle), Convicted Felon in Possession of Firearm, and Criminal Mischief 1st degree, for the damage to the crop field.

Beech Tree News update:  

Prior to the chase Woosley had stolen several items, including tools, and guns) from his half-brother, David Woosley, at his garage on Brownsville Road.  Butler County Sheriff's Deputy Heath West located some of the items and another stolen vehicle in the possession of Sarah Elizabeth Bradley and James Kenneth Embry.  Both were lodged in the Butler County Jail and charged with receiving stolen property (firearms) and receiving stolen property over $300.

Lonnie Woolsey then returned to David Woolsey's home on Brownsville Road and was in the process of robbing the home when David returned and blocked the stolen truck Lonnie was driving in the driveway.  Lonnie exited the house, got into the stolen truck and started ramming David Woolsey's vehicle pushing him out of the driveway, thus starting the three-county chase.
