Christine Bratcher: Butler County Knitters and Crocheters Creating Blessings...one stitch at a time

We have been very busy all fall getting ready for Christmas, before Christmas. We have to have everything done early so that everyone can get the warm hats and scarves and ear warmer headbands for our Festival of Trees tree before Christmas. Also, the new babies at the Medical Center got Christmas hats to wear home. I recently met a young woman whose baby was born 2 years ago just before Christmas and had worn one of our hats home. I think the parents enjoy these special little hats, and they are a pleasure to make. All of the things we make are made with love. The Crocheters start in the summer and this year we had 172 hats and scarves on the hat tree and over 170 little hats for the hospital.  Giving the gifts we are able to give reminds us of the gifts the magi gave Jesus, and the message Jesus left us with.

Our next project will be red hats for the newborns in the month of February to commemorate Valentine’s Day and Health Heart Month. Anyone who would like to help is welcome and I have plenty of red yarn donated by one of our dear supporters so all we have to do is crochet or knit the hats. We will start meeting again Monday, January 13 at 11am at the Butler County Library meeting room, weather permitting.

One of our members, Maurlene Jasmine, is a self-taught crochet appliqué artist. She has created some cute covers for baby carriers and she wanted to put pictures on them. She wasn’t too sure she could crochet the pictures right in the blanket-like covers, so she made up her own patterns then crocheted little cars, buses and trees and stitched them onto the crocheted covers, she is working on people next.  She says it’s not hard and she would be glad to show anyone how she does it. Just stop by any Monday morning.
