Chamber cancels some events, others placed on hold; decision on Catfish Festival to be made later

The Green River Catfish Festival for 2020 is now “on hold” as officials with the Morgantown-Butler County Chamber of Commerce scales back its activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a press release issued on Tuesday, the Chamber announced that its office is closed to the public until further notice and that all March and April Chamber events (Coffee Hours, Chamber Luncheons, Ribbon Cuttings, and Green River Catfish Festival Planning meetings) are cancelled.  Chamber-sponsored events beyond April are now considered to be “on hold” in order to gain a “better understanding of how this pandemic will progress.” That includes the Green River Catfish Festival, which is scheduled around Independence Day, July 4.

According to Chamber officials, the organization plans to “do everything within the power of the staff and board members to reschedule, rather than cancel scheduled events.”

The release stated that “no decision to cancel events will be made hastily.”
